CAIRO – 14 April 2023: Egypt’s Interior Ministry decided to grant an exceptional visit to all inmates in Egyptian rehabilitation centers nationwide on April 16, 2023, on the occasion of the Christians’ holy feast of Easter.

The visit is an addition to the visits allocated for each of the prisoners during their jail term, which means that it will not be deducted from the number of their legalized visits.

The exceptional visit comes as part of the Ministry of Interior's efforts to its keenness to preserve the values of human rights alongside the application of its penal policy and a modern correctional system.

Egypt’s Coptic Orthodox Church will celebrate Easter on April 15, which comes after the Holy Week, ending a 55-day period of Lent.

The Orthodox Church started in February the Great Lent, and held masses and prayers at various churches nationwide.

Easter, aka Resurrection Sunday, is a Christian celebration commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, according to the Christian belief.
