2 Egyptians killed in bus accident in Saudi Mecca; others injured

CAIRO – 7 April 2023: Preliminary information shows that three were killed including two Egyptians and 40 people were injured in a bus accident that took place in Saudi Arabia’s holy city of Mecca, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

The bus carried 50 Egyptian passengers who were heading to perform the Umrah rituals when it crashed on Al-Jumum Road in Mecca, the ministry added in a statement.

The members of the Egyptian Consulate in Jeddah headed to Mecca to provide the necessary consular support, check on the condition of the injured, and provide them with the necessary health care, the ministry said.

The consulate continues to provide all assistance to the injured and their families throughout the day through an emergency operations room at the mission's headquarters, the statement added.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also extended its sincere condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to the injured, while committing to providing support to them and their families.
