CAIRO – 6 April 2023: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry reiterated on Thursday Egypt’s support to all efforts aiming to find a comprehensive and sustainable political solution in Yemen in a meeting with his Yemeni counterpart, Ahmed BinMubarak, in Cairo.
Shoukry affirmed the need for the political solution to be agreed upon by all parties in Yemen, preserve the unity of the country and the coherence of its legitimate institutions, and keeps Yemen integrated into its Arab surrounding, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
BinMubarak voiced appreciation of the Egyptian unwavering stance in support of the Yemeni legitimacy and the efforts of reaching a political settlement that restores security and stability in Yemen and alleviate the humanitarian suffering that the country witnesses.
BinMubarak also stressed Yemen’s support to the Egyptian national security in the face of any challenges, especially with regards to water security as an integral part of Arab national security.
The Yemeni foreign minister reviewed developments in Yemen and the ongoing efforts to find a political solution to the crisis.
Shoukry, for his part, hailed the Yemeni brothers’ keenness to continuously coordinate with Cairo on the latest developments in the country, reiterating support to Yemen’s legitimate government.
The Egyptian foreign minister also affirmed support to the endeavors to extend the UN-brokered truce in Yemen.
BinMubarak handed Shoukry a written message from Chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council Rashad Al-Alimi to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on means of continuing to enhance the bilateral relations between the two countries at all levels.
During the meeting, the Yemeni minister also expressed aspiration for holding the Egyptian-Yemeni joint committee and the political consultation mechanism between the two countries’ foreign ministries to ensure boosting the bilateral relations between Egypt and Yemen.
BinMubarak highlighted the care and good hospitality enjoyed by the Yemeni community in Egypt, where they are treated exactly like Egyptian citizens in many sectors such as education and health, within the framework of the historical ties binding the two brotherly countries.
Egypt has been pushing for a political solution to the Yemeni crisis, which has lasted for over a decade, affirming readiness to make all efforts to settle the Yemeni crisis and alleviate the humanitarian burdens on the Yemeni people.
BinMubarak’s visit comes as the UN-brokered truce between the Yemeni government, backed by a Saudi-led coalition, and Iranian-backed Houthi rebels, marks its first anniversary.
The visit also comes after Saudi Arabia and Iran agreed last month to a Chinese-brokered deal to restore their diplomatic relations, which gives further hope to the resolution of the crisis in Yemen.
