CAIRO – 6 April 2023: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Yemeni counterpart, Ahmed BinMubarak, held talks in Cairo to discuss developments in Yemen.

Shoukry received BinMubarak in Egypt, where they also discussed the two countries’ bilateral relations.

Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid hailed in a tweet the “deeply-rooted historic relations between the two brotherly countries”.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met late last year with Chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council Rashad Al-Alimi, where he affirmed Egypt’s readiness to support security and stability in Egypt, which are of a great importance to the Egyptian national security.

The meeting came on the sidelines of the 31st Arab League summit in Algeria last November.

Egypt has been pushing for a political solution to the Yemeni crisis, which has lasted for over a decade, affirming readiness to make all efforts to settle the Yemeni crisis and alleviate the humanitarian burdens on the Yemeni people.

BinMubarak’s visit comes as a UN-brokered truce between the Yemeni government, backed by a Saudi-led coalition, and Iranian-backed Houthi rebels, marks its first anniversary.

The visit also comes after Saudi Arabia and Iran agreed last month to a Chinese-brokered deal to restore their diplomatic relations, which gives further hope to the resolution of the crisis in Yemen.
