Upper Egypt receives vast majority of Haya Karima projects

CAIRO - 23 March 2023: Upper Egypt accounts for 96.8% of the total projects of Haya Karima initiative, according to a Wednesday study by the Egyptian Center for Strategic Studies.

 

The southern governorates have long been marginalized, hence the need for many developments in all fields. 

 

Since its inception in 2019, 97.3% of sanitation projects in Upper Egypt have been completed. Health units have been completed by 90.2%. 

 

 In education, the rate of establishing schools has reached 48.8%. Road paving and renovation reached 85.2%. Meanwhile, 247 irrigation projects have been  implemented.

 

Canals have been lined at a distance of kilometers at a cost of L.E. 8.6 billion.

 

A total of 4,179 industrial facilities on waterways have been renovated per environmental standards. Irrigation methods have been modernized in 60,000 feddans. Covered drainage networks have also been developed and exposed drainage systems have been expanded. 

 

Further, the New Dairout Barrag in Asyut governorate has been established to serve 1.6 million feddans.
