CAIRO – 20 March 2023: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry and COP 27 President met Monday, on the sidelines of the Copenhagen Climate Ministerial Conference, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Simon Stiell and COP 28 President Sultan al-Jaber, the UAE's minister of industry and advanced technology.

In his meeting with Stiell, Minister Shokry expressed appreciation for the UNFCCC's support to COP 27 hosted in Sharm El Sheikh, which contributed to the success of conference and the production of outcomes that would reinforce climate work.

The minister and the international officer discussed ways of implementing those outcomes, especially the activation of the loss and damage fund, the ministry's press statement indicated.

The COP 27 president and his COP 28 counterpart also exchanged views on pushing forward climate action and building upon on what had been achieved. The Emirati minister was keen on learning about Egypt's experience in terms of topics covered at COP 27 as well as organization.
