CAIRO – 8 February 2023: The 5+5 Libyan Military Committee concluded its meetings in Cairo on Wednesday adopting an integrated mechanism to exchange information on foreign mercenaries, as reported by Youm7.

In a related context, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry received Tuesday Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Abdoulaye Bathily, holding extensive talks on developments pertaining to the political solution in Libya.

Minister Shokry briefed Bathily on the outcomes of meetings hosted by Egypt to accomplish the constitutional provisions, mainly holding legislative and presidential elections in tandem. The chief of Egyptian diplomacy underscored the salience of the United Nations' sponsorship to achieve that goal.

The minister equally stipulated the necessity that foreign parties must halt any attempts to skew the Libyan political process to be aligned with their interests. Rather, they should make room for the Libyan free will, Shokry urged.

On his side, the UNSMIL chief told Minister Shokry that he had always stressed that point in talks with non-Libyan parties. As for Libyan parties, he said that he recommended them to show lenience towards the remaining areas of disagreement within the constitutional pathway.

The UN official similarly showed interest in coordinating with Egypt in the coming period, in light of its pivotal role in reinstating stability in Libya, as indicated by the ministry's press statement.
