Egypt offers urgent relief aid to Turkey, Syria after deadly quake

CAIRO – 6 February 2023: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry made phone called with his Turkish and Syrian counterparts Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and Faisal Mekdad, respectively, offering Egypt’s deep sorrow and condolences for the victims of the deadly 7.8 earthquake that hit Turkish-Syrian border area on early Monday .

         

Shoukry said that Egypt decided to send urgent relief aid in solidarity with the Turkish and Syrian peoples.

 

The earthquake claimed lives of more than 1,500 people besides injuring 8,500 at least in Turkey so far, while the death toll in Syrian areas controlled by the government reached 416 people and 1,326 injuries. As for the opposition-controlled areas in Syria,  385 deaths were reported and 1,011 injuries.
