CAIRO – 31 January 2023: The Arab Network for Digital Media and Human Rights [Andmhr] issued on Tuesday a study on the reactivation of the Presidential Pardon Committee and its positive impact on the human rights situation in Egypt and the progress made in civil and political rights.

According to the study, it’s estimated that nearly 20,000 inmates were released, which indicates ‘the existence of a political will that aims to ending the prisoners’ issue’

The study, issued by the network under the title: “Lists of presidential pardons, integration and rehabilitation. Egypt, on the path of reconciliation and reparation” highlighted indications for activating the national strategy for human rights, and building on the actual progress achieved in it during the past two years.

The issued study indicated that the Presidential Pardon Committee has achieved remarkable success since the re-formation and activation of its role at the end of April 2022.

The study showed that the results of the Presidential Pardon Committee so far confirm the success of the national mechanisms responsible for improving human rights conditions in dealing seriously with the issue of detainees.

The study also drew attention to assigning the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to reintegrate the released detainees back into society, and the response of political forces to establish a committee for integration and rehabilitation and its work to return the released detainees to their natural lives to resume work or complete their education.

The Arab Network for Digital Media and Human Rights called - at the conclusion of the study - all governmental institutions and the private sector in Egypt to cooperate with the committee and return the released persons to their jobs and positions to contribute to supporting the pillars of social peace and realizing the principles of human rights.
