CAIRO – 3 January 2023: Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmed Abou El Gheit condemned Tuesday "the breach of Al Aqsa Mosque's sanctity" by Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir, who broke into the holy site early in the morning.

Abou El Gheit described the act as provocation and disregard of the feelings of Muslims by the Israeli government under the protection of its security agencies.

The statement said that the blatant violation comes within the implementation of an extremist programme and colonial agenda by the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The statement added that the programme implies probabilities of agitating the situation in Jerusalem and other occupied lands in a very dangerous way.

Abou El Gheit held Netanyahu's government accountable for Ben-Gvir's breaking into Al Aqsa Mosque, similar practices, extremist rightist plans, and their repercussions on Palestine and the entire region. The Arab League's secretary general further warned of the influence of such plans on global peace, as they may erupt a religious war.
