CAIRO – 1 October 2022: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi congratulated Giorgia Meloni, Italy’s new prime minister, after her party won the general election held on Sunday 25 September.

In a Facebook post, President Sisi wished the new Italian leader success in leading Italy towards a prosperous bright future.

“I also look forward to working with her within the framework of the well-established partnership that Egypt and Italy share to further enhance bilateral ties across all fields,” Sisi said.

This should be “commensurate with the ancient history and great civilization of the two countries and in the interest of the two peoples and humanity at large,” the president added.

The Friends of Italy political party, led by Meloni, won the general election held in Italy last Sunday, leading the 45-year-old politician to lead the new coalition government.

Egypt and Italy share strong bilateral relations in various fields and broad areas of cooperation.

In 2021, Egypt’s exports to Italy increased by more than 91 percent to reach $2.8 billion compared to $1.5 billion in 2020, according to data of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The value of trade exchange between Egypt and Italy also increased to $5.8 billion in 2021 compared to $4.5 billion in 2020, according to CAPMAS.

The two countries have also kept on holding political consultations to exchange visions on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
