CAIRO - 29 August 2022: Advisor to the Minister of Agriculture on climate changes Dr. Mohamed Fahim said that all agricultural crops are affected by climate changes, especially coffee, which has witnessed increase in its prices globally in the recent period.

Fahim added, in a telephone interview on Channel 1 of Egyptian TV, that climatic changes have led to the occurrence of major problems in the cultivation of coffee, and thus this was reflected in the rise in coffee prices globally, especially since coffee cultivation takes place in tropical, like: Brazil, Ethiopia and Vietnam, which are famous for growing coffee.

"The world consumes 400 billion cups of coffee annually, with a value of 500 billion dollars, and because of the climate repercussions that began a few years ago, coffee cultivation has been affected," he said, adding that it is expected that over the next few years, 50% of the areas famous for coffee cultivation will be outside the production of the crop.

He pointed to the direction of the Ministry of Agriculture, to develop new varieties of crops that face climate changes in the future, to preserve agriculture in Egypt.
