CAIRO - 2 August 2022: The Egyptian and Greek naval forces have conducted joint drills at the northern fleet’s zone within the framework of the Egyptian Armed Forces’ General Command’s plan to exchange expertise with the armed forces of other brotherly countries.

In a statement, the Egyptian Armed Forces’ spokesman said the Egyptian frigate Al-Moez and the Greek warship HS IKARIA SZEF participated in the drills.

The training contributes to exchanging joint experiences with the Greek naval forces and benefiting from the bilateral capabilities to achieve the common interests of both sides, the spokesman said.

This would contribute effectively to maintaining maritime security and stability in the region, he added.

Egypt and Greece have conducted numerous joint drills over the past years within the framework of exchanging military expertise and boosting their armed forces’ capabilities, including with Cyprus.

In November last year, units from the Armed Forces of Egypt, Greece, Cyprus, and the UAE participated in air and naval drills dubbed ‘MEDUSA 11’.

Egypt’s mistral-class helicopter carrier ‘Gamal Abdel-Nasser’ took part in the exercises alongside several maritime vessels and multi-task aircrafts.
