New presidents of Egypt's State Council, State Lawsuits Authority take oaths before Sisi

CAIRO – 26 June 2022: Justice Adel Fahim and Justice Mohamed Mohamed Bakr took the oaths Sunday before President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi as presidents of the State Council and State Lawsuits Authority, respectively.

 

The president also awarded Justice Mohamed Hossam El Din, the former president of the state council, the top-tier of the Order of the Republic.

 

The president stipulated the role of the Court of Cassation, State Council, and State Lawsuits Authority in establishing justice. He also expressed appreciation for the judges for their major efforts and valued devotion in achieving the rule of law.

 

On May 17, Egypt celebrated the State Council’s diamond jubilee, a date that also mark the founding of the African State Councils and Supreme Administrative Courts Union.

 

 

On the occasion of the event, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met with heads of African state councils and supreme administrative courts in Egypt.

 

The chief of state asked the chief judges to to establish a union of their judicial institutions, which would spread legal awareness and push African action.

 

 

The president said Egypt supports the independence of the judiciary, emphasizing that administrative judiciary secures public rights and freedoms.

 

For his part, Minister of Justice Omar Marwan said the union would encourage exchange of expertise and legal research on African communities, according to a statement by the Egyptian presidential spokesperson. 

 

Meanwhile, the African judges discussed several topics pertaining to the continent with Sisi, including terrorism. They stipulated the judiciary’s role in coordinating a unified and coherent legislative environment to advance African communities and help them deal with international challenges and formulate a common future for the continent.
