We won’t accept the release of anyone who represents threat to Egypt’s security: Pardon committee

CAIRO – 30 May 2022: “Anyone represents threat to Egypt’s national security will not be allowed to be released, this is one of the committee’s main pillars” Tarek al Khouly, member of the presidential pardon committee and Member of the House of Representatives for the Coordination's Committee of Parties' Youth Leaders and Politicians (CPYP), said.

He added in a televised statement, Sunday that new group of prisoners will be released during the coming hours, and that all released will be reintegrate the released prisoners into their past careers and education as er president Abdel Fattah al Sisi directs.

Mohamed Abdel Aziz, member of the presidential pardon committee and deputy human rights commissioner for the Coordination of Youth Parties and Politicians (CPYP) said on Sunday, that new group of prisoners will be released within 24 hours.

On his Facebook page, Abdel Aziz thanked President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and said that many lists of would-be released names to follow.

On May 4, 2022, a total of 986 inmates have been pardoned by President Sisi on Eid al-Fitr, according to a statement by the Ministry of Interior.

The Presidential Pardon Committee works with the relevant authorities and several NGOs to pardon those who meet the conditions.

The Ministry of Interior said this comes as it follows the “modern sense” of punitive policy. Meanwhile, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi launched the national human rights strategy in September with vows to open the public space to be more and more inclusive.

Also, three journalists were released via a presidential pardon, and 41 activists were released from pre-trial detention per a State Security Prosecution decree on April 24-15.

President Abdel Fattah al Sisi directed the Presidential pardon committee to work to reintegrate the released prisoners into their past careers and facilitating their return to the jobs they used to occupy before entering jail.

According to unnamed sources told Cairo 24 website, President Sisi also directed to facilitate the return of students to their studies again, whether in schools or universities.

The Presidential Pardon Committee has launched an online form to apply for the release of any prisoner per a presidential pardon.

The form demands the prisoner’s full name, ID, the number of the case and his governorate.

The person who fills the forms also needs to write down his full name, ID along with phone number and email for communication.
