CAIRO – 13 July 2017: The Tourism and Antiquities police foiled an artifacts smuggling attempt by two 50 and 36 year-old criminals transporting 225 bronze coins, four pottery artifacts, and a black basalt statue in a squatting position in a car in Minya governorate.

In Aswan, a 45-year old was arrested for drilling inside his house for the purpose of illegal excavation, as rectangular holes were found in the location. The drilling tools were seized.

The Tourism and Antiquities police in Sharqiya foiled on June 1 an attempt to smuggle 348 antiquities.

One suspect was arrested by the authorities who set up an ambush after receiving a notification that revealed the suspect had stashed the antiquities in his car.
