GIZA, Egypt- 4 May 2022: Mohammad Ragai, the head of the Central Administration of Zoos, said that Giza Zoo received 80,000 visitors in the second day of Eidul Fitr holiday.
This is an unprecedented number of visitors in one day, he said making it clear that all precautionary measures against coronavirus are strictly applied.
In statements to MENA on Tuesday, Ragai added that all basic amenities are provided for the visitors, noting that green spaces have been increased across the zoo.
The Giza Zoo was first established as a botanical garden over an area of about 80 acres. Built by Khedive Ismail, it opened on March 1, 1891. The zoo is the third oldest in the world and Africa’s first.
