CAIRO – 30 April 2022: The General Administration of Groundwater in North Sinai has completed the construction of the “Umm Al-Bared” Dam, which is the latest project to protect central Sinai regions from the danger of torrential rains, and store rainwater for reuse in agriculture.

Maysa Mohamed Mahmoud, Director General of the General Administration of Groundwater in North Sinai, said that the Umm Al-Bared Dam is located in the village of Al-Tamd, with a length of 250 meters, a height of 7 meters, and a storage capacity of 3 million cubic meters of water; it was built at a cost of 18 million Egyptian Pounds.

She explained that the dam is being used to protect the region from the dangers of torrential rains coming from southern Sinai, so that they do not flow into Wadi El-Arish and instead, re-utilize them in agriculture and fish farms.

For his part, Major General Abdel-Fadil Shousha, Governor of North Sinai, said that the Umm Al-Bared Dam in central Sinai “is one of the most important new projects that were opened on the land of the governorate during the North Sinai governorate’s celebration of the Sinai Liberation Day and the National Day.”

He further said that the projects were carried out on the land of Sinai with a value of 120 million EGP for irrigation in North Sinai Governorate, mostly to protect against the dangers of torrential rains and store water for use in agriculture and the establishment of fish farms.
