CAIRO – 1 April 2022: The Egyptian Dar Al Iftaa, the Sunni Islamic body tasked with issuing Fatwas, will organize on Friday evening a big celebration on the occasion of sighting the crescent of the holy month of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic Calendar when the Muslims worldwide fast from dawn to sunset.

The celebration will be held at the Hall of the Al-Azhar Conference Center in Nasr City, Cairo. It will be attended by several religious scholars from the Ministry of Endowments and Al-Azhar Sheikhdom, besides a number of statemen.

Egypt’s Grand Mufti Shawqi Allam has stated that all preparations for the crescent sighting had been completed.

During the first week of the holy month, Egypt is expected to see a steep rise in temperature nationwide this week until Wednesday, 6 April.

After a two-Ramadan hiatus due to Covid-19, Cairo began receiving requests of holding Mawaid el-Rahman, or charity iftars, this Ramadan.

Big tables that have different types of foods are offered for free for anyone to join at the call of Maghrib prayer, announcing the time for Muslims to break their fasting. The guests are usually the poor or people who did not go home in time.
