189K tons of wheat en route to Egypt from Russia, Ukraine, Romania

CAIRO – 13 March 2022: The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade announced Sunday that 189,000 tons of wheat have been shipped from three countries, and are expected to arrive to Egypt in a few days.

 

The breakdown is 63,000 tons from each of Russia, Romania, and Ukraine. Those to be added to the 63,000 tons that came from France on March 8, and the same quantity delivered from Ukraine on March 5.

 

Head of the National Campaign for Wheat, affiliated to the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Reda Mohamed Ali stated in a phone-in Sunday that Egypt has cultivated since the beginning of the year and until present 3.65 million tons of wheat, which sufficient for four months.

 

Ali added that the harvest season will begin mid-April, and that Egypt's annual production of wheat will amount to 10 million tons by the end of 2022.

 

The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade had previously indicated that imported wheat covers local need for four months starting March, while Egyptian wheat will fulfill demand since the end of that period until the conclusion of 2022.
