CAIRO – 24 January 2022: Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s anticipated visit to Cairo starting Monday are expected to boost political and economic relations between Algeria and Egypt, Algerian Parliament Member Abdelkader Berriche said.

In remarks to Egypt Today, Berriche said Tebboune’s visit will have significant outcomes on the political level as it will unify visions and stances regarding geostrategic issues.

This especially includes activating the path of joint Arab work and the role of the Arab League, Berriche said, affirming the importance of unifying the Arab ranks in light of the current international developments.

Berriche highlighted the need to achieve further political and economic consensus between Egypt and Algeria.

Everyone hopes that Tebboune’s visit to Cairo will help enhance Egyptian-Algerian relations through introducing a new dynamic to increase trade and investments between the two countries, Berriche said.

Berriche expressed hope that the visit will result in launching an economic cooperation framework on the basis of a win-win strategic partnership in all economic cooperation fields.

Tebboune’s visit is his first to Egypt since he took power at the end of 2019. Algeria's former interim president Abdelkader Bensalah visited Cairo in 2019.

In a statement on Sunday, the Algerian Presidency said Tebboune will make a two-day official “fraternal and working” visit to Egypt starting Monday.

Earlier in January, Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra held a meeting in Cairo with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, where they discussed mutual relations between Cairo and Alegria.

During the meeting, Lamamra handed over a written message from Tebboune to Sisi, which expressed Algeria’s appreciation of its firm and distinguished relations with Egypt on the official and popular levels.
