CAIRO – 1 January 2021: Egypt’s Red Sea city of Hurghada witnessed on Saturday a rare snowfall as the country has been hit by a wave of unstable weather this week.

The city also saw heavy rainfall and rain inundated some streets. The cities of Safaga also saw heavy rainfall on most of the areas.

The governorates of Assiut, Sharm El-Sheikh, and Red Sea announced suspending schools on Sunday over bad weather.

Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawy urged citizens to stay away from trees, billboards, and light poles.

He urged citizens to also help vacuum trucks to move easily to remove rain water, avoid driving at high speeds, and maintaining safe distances.

Shaarawy urged continued rise of the state of preparedness in the governorates witnessing bad weather and assigned operation rooms in the ministry to follow up on the situation round the clock.

The EMA revealed that Egypt will witness a decrease in temperature degrees until Sunday.

According to the authority, moderate weather will prevail during the day on Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt, the northern coasts and northern Upper Egypt, tending to be warm on southern Sinai and southern Upper Egypt, while the weather will be very cold at night across the country.
