CAIRO – 23 December 2021: Deputy Governor of North Sinai Osama al-Ghandour told press Thursday that constructions are still underway in the Middle East's largest desalination plant located Western Arish.

The cost of the project is $97 million, and it is targeted to make water supply available 24/7 instead of just a few hours a day. The first phase will allow for the production of 100,000 cubic meters per day, while the second will secure 300,000 cubic meters of water daily.

In April, North Sinai Governor Mohamed Shousha announced that construction of the largest desalination plant in Africa and the Middle East has begun.

There are four other desalination plants that are close to get completed in Arish. Three have a total capacity of 5,000 cubic meters per day, and one has a capacity of 10,000 cubic meters daily. The four plants will pump into the water supply network of Arish 25,000 cubic meters daily.
