CAIRO – 20 October 2021: Chinese Ambassador to Cairo Liao Liqiang said Wednesday that "Decent Life" initiative reflects a similarity between the visions of Egypt and China on poverty eradication.

The ambassador made the statement during a lecture on China's experience with the elimination of poverty.

Liqiang highlighted that his country was able to drag 99.8 million Chinese citizens – living across 128,000 villages and belonging to 28 ethnic minorities - out of poverty. He added that over the past eight years China was able to help 10 million people out of poverty per annum worldwide.

The ambassador noted that the Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone (SETC), which is a Chinese industrial zone within the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCzone), had created 3,500 direct jobs and 40,000 indirect jobs.

Liqiang added that China is also leading infrastructure projects in the New Administrative Capital (NAC) such as the Business Park, the monorail system, and LRT system in 10th of Ramadan City.

The ambassador underlined that China is also playing a role in expanding citizens' access to the Internet. That is through Huawei, which introduced high-quality cables in Egyptian villages, and islands in the Red Sea.

With regard to cooperation in the vocational training field, Egypt and China launched the Egyptian Chinese College for Applied Technology (ECCAT) at Suez Canal University in addition to two other workshops in Cairo.

Regarding its contribution to development in Africa, Liqiang clarified that China established 24 agricultural technology centers serving 500,000 people.
