CAIRO – 9 July 2017: Egypt will participate in the meetings of the Group for Strategic Communication in the Global Coalition Against Daesh which will be held in Washington between 11 and 13 July, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid said on Sunday.

The meetings will include senior officials responsible for combating terrorism from among the member states. The working group’s agenda is concerned with the communication strategy regarding combating extremism and will consider all important developments with regard to global terrorism, according Abu Zeid.

Abu Zeid added that the upcoming meeting is the first since the Riyadh Arab-Islamic-American summit in May 2017 where Egypt clearly conveyed its position with regard to combating terrorism. President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi gave a speech which outlined a number of challenges that should be tackled if there is a collective will to end the phenomenon of global terror.

“The meeting also follows the series of measures taken by Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia against Qatar for its support, financing and harboring of terrorist organizations. The delegation will also present evidence proving the involvement of particular states in supporting terrorist organizations. The delegation will urge taking a firm stance against these states, especially as terrorism continues to claim innocent lives, the last of which was the terrorist attack on Friday in North Sinai,” Abu Zeid added.

Abu Zeid confirmed that the Egyptian delegation in Washington intends to clearly present the comprehensive Egyptian vision with regard to combating terrorism, without any political calculations or vagueness.
