CAIRO - 4 September 2021: The Supreme Egyptian-Cypriot Government Committee convened Saturday in Cairo. This is the first time the committee has convened at the presidential level.

President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and his Cypriot counterpart Nicos Anastasiades held talks on means to invest the great capabilities of the two countries to achieve common interests in a model to be followed in terms of interdependence and cooperation, according to presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady.

The summit indicates the unprecedented level of partnership and the political will to develop joint projects, Rady said.

Sisi updated his counterpart with Egypt’s efforts to arrive at a fair solution for the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam and to resume negotiations leading to a legally binding agreement on the filling and operation of the structure. He said the international community has a serious role to play in the issue to maintain the stability of the region.

For his part, Anastasiades said the summit is a new step in enhancing the strategic partnership of the two states, which he described as “a pillar for regional stability.”

The Cypriot president also emphasized the civilizational and cultural ties that extend throughout history, highlighting Cyprus’ keenness to strengthen these relations at all levels.
