CAIRO – 1 July 2021: Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for European Affairs Amb. Badr Abdel Atti held a series of meetings with senior officials and parliamentarians during his visit to Sarajevo coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

 

The meetings intensively dealt with bilateral relations between Egypt and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and ways to develop them, especially in the political, economic and commercial fields, and to enhance coordination in international forums on issues of common interest.

 

The meetings were with the Bosnian Minister of Security and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as an intensive consultation session with the Assistant Secretary of State for Bilateral Relations, in the presence of senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

The Assistant Minister also met with chairmen and members of the Committees on Foreign Relations, Economic Cooperation, Transport and Communications in the Houses of Peoples and Representatives of the Bosnian Parliament, as well as a meeting with the President of the Federation of Bosnian Chambers of Commerce.

 

The two sides agreed on the critical importance of activating the joint committee for technical, scientific and economic cooperation, and intensifying communication between representatives of the private sector in the two countries.

 

They also discussed promoting trade exchange and identifing the great opportunities offered by the market Egyptian companies for Bosnian companies, in light of the high growth rates witnessed by the Egyptian economy.

 

The efforts made to revitalize Bosnian tourism to Egypt and the efforts made by the Egyptian state to protect tourists from the Coronavirus and related precautionary measures were also reviewed.

 

The two sides discussed a number of important regional and international files, foremost of which is the Palestinian issue, in light of the role played by Egypt to reach a ceasefire agreement and the efforts made to sustain it. Other issues discussed include "Renaissance Dam", emphasizing the constants of the Egyptian position, and the importance of quickly reaching a just and binding legal agreement regarding the filling and operation of the dam.
