CAIRO - 3 June 2021: Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli attended Wednesday the inking ceremony of a joint contract to convert 2,262 public buses in Cairo and Alexandria to run on natural gas instead of gasoline, at about EGP 1.2 billion cost.

The six-phase deal was signed by the ministries of petroleum, finance, local development, state ministry for military production, Cairo Transport Authority, and Alexandria Passenger Transport Authority.

It was signed in pursuance of a national initiative to replace rickety cars and convert them to run on natural gas to make the optimum use of national resources, maximize their added value, rationalize gasoline consumption and reduce harmful emissions, according to President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's directives on that score.
