Arab Parliament awards Egyptian president 'Leader Medal'

CAIRO – 2 June 2021: The Arab Parliament awarded President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi Wednesday the "Leader Medal" for his efforts in resolving regional issues.

 

As indicated by Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady, President Sisi received Speaker of the Arab Parliament Adel al-Asoumy – originally member of the Bahraini House of the Representatives - in Al Itihadiyah presidential palace where the handing of the medal took place.

The medal is the highest award given by the Arab Parliament to chiefs of state, and the timing is intertwined with the success of Egypt is brokering a ceasefire in Gaza Strip between the Israelis and Palestinians. "That is in addition to the development endeavors the country has undertaken under the leadership of Sisi positively impacting all aspects of life, and setting an Arab developmental model," the statement added.

 

The president asked Asoumy to extend his greetings to King Hamad bin Eisa of Bahrain, and expressed appreciation for the Arab Parliament, "whose stances have been supportive to the Egyptian national security." The president said he looks forward to bolstering cooperation with the Arab Parliament to serve joint interests. 

 

The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry and Egyptian Speaker of the House of Representatives Hanafy al-Gebaly.

 

Award 2

 

Participants exchanged views on empowering the Arab Observatory for Human Rights, which shall communicate the Arab viewpoint on human rights to human rights organizations around the world. That viewpoint is rooted in the notion that preserving the national security of the Arab states is essential to ensure the materialization of other aspects of human rights.
