CAIRO – 2 June 2021: The Swiss Founder of Ceramic and Pottery schools in the village of Tunis in Fayoum Evelyn Porret died at 88 years old.

 

Porret's passion to pottery has inspired children, artists, writers in Egypt. Her death has left the village of Tunis in deep sadness for the loss of its lady.  

 

The Fayoum Tourism Authority Facebook page announced on Tuesday the death of the inspiring Swiss potter Porret, known as 'The lady of Tunis Village.'

“Our deepest and sincerest condolences go to her family and Friends in Egypt and the world,” said the page.

 

According to the page, Evelyne was the first potter in the village and “has inspired artists, writers and journalists from Cairo and elsewhere to build mud-brick based houses and an Art Center that contributes to Tunis' lively artistic feel.”

 

The Swiss artist that lived in Tunis Village in Fayoum since the mid eighties was a key mentor of pottery and the founder of Fayoum Pottery School in the village, the authority said.
