CAIRO – 12 April 2021: Egypt’s Ministry of Health stressed the importance of committing to covid-19’s precautionary measures during the holy month of Ramadan.

The Ministry called on citizens to avoid crowded places such as stores and malls, as an opportunity to increase the spread of the coronavirus, especially in Ramadan, due to shopping and visits between families and friends.

The Health Ministry said Sunday that 812 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in the country began to 210,489.

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 40 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 12,445.

As many as 445 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 159,499 so far, the spokesman said.

Egypt has started its vaccination campaign in January, starting with the medical teams at quarantine hospitals, for being on top of priority groups in terms of vaccination.

It has also started vaccination people suffering from chronic diseases and the elderly.
