Self sufficiency
The meeting reviewed the food security system, including the production and distribution of strategic commodities to ensure the availability of safe stockpiles for reassuring periods, the Presidency said in a statement.
Mostafa Abdel Gawad, head of Sugar Crops Council of the Ministry of Agriculture, confirmed that Egypt is witnessing a significant breakthrough in achieving self-sufficiency in sugar, which is considered one of the country’s strategic crops.
Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk, met with Brik Aren, Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), and discussed prospects for joint cooperation between the ministry and the organization during the coming period.
The center aims at achieving self-sufficiency in plasma-derived biological medicines, a statement by the Egyptian Army spokesman said.
The center stated that the report contained the most important indicators that confirm Egypt's trend towards achieving self-sufficiency in petroleum products.
Abu Al-Yazid added during a TV interview that Egypt's current sugar production amounts to 2.7 million tons.
