Gas Discovery
The well was drilled by rig EDC 56 in shallow waters at a depth of around 10 meters, approximately 3 kilometers offshore in the West Abu Madi area.
The discovery was made in an offshore concession operated by Italy’s Eni in partnership with Britain’s BP, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources reported on Saturday.
Eni says a new offshore Egypt discovery could add major gas volumes with fast-track development potential.
The find follows the successful drilling of the Denise W-1 exploration well within the Temsah Concession in the Eastern Mediterranean.
This comes less than a week after the announcement of a gas discovery in Egypt by the German company Wintershall Dea, on Thursday, Jan. 12, in one of its concession areas in the Nile Delta.
The announcement came in a joint statement by Eni, as the Operator of the Block, and bp, as contractor member.
Italian oil and gas company Eni said it managed to drill the first exploration well in waters of Egypt’s Nile Delta, in cooperation with contractor members of BP and Total.
