Egypt has received more than 164,000 Sudanese people since the outbreak of the crisis in Sudan in mid-April, Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said on Twitter.
Egypt’s first lady, Intissar al Sisi, spouse of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, praised efforts of the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC), voicing her appreciation for all its volunteers.
The shipment came within the framework of the special Egyptian-Somali relations and the Egyptian political leadership’s keenness to support the Somali government and people in the face of the drought that Somalia has suffered from for years, the statement said.
The service point aims to facilitate the return of nationals and provide free logistic services, in addition to contacting the nationals' families to ensure their safety, the note added.
The Egyptian team visited the Romanian Red Cross headquarters in Bucharest, attended a video conference with the International Red Cross.
The aid was prepared in cooperation with the Egyptian Red Crescent to ease the burden of citizens in South Sudan, the Egyptian military spokesman said on Monday, adding that the plane headed to Juba International Airport.
