A cassation court sentenced on Thursday Egyptian businessman Hassan Rateb and former Parliament member Alaa Hassanin to three and five years in prison respectively over antiquities trafficking charges.
Rateb was arrested in late June 2021 over charges of providing millions of Egyptian pounds to former MP Alaa Hassanin and his brother to help them in illegal digging for antiquities.
During today’s trial, Deep asked the court to send Rateb to sed his client to a hospital as he suffers from cancer. However, the court rejected and ruled to continue Rabbit’s imprisonment.
The investigations revealed that Rateb provided millions of Egyptian pounds to Hassanin and his brother to help them in the illegal excavation.
