During a phone call with UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert and Head of Mission and Force Commander of UNIFIL Lt. Gen. Aroldo Lázaro, Nawaf said he had directed the Lebanese interior minister to take immediate action to identify the assailants, arrest them, and refer them to the judicial body.
Egypt called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, urging all parties to reduce escalation and ease tensions. It stresses the importance of the Israeli occupation army's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of UN personnel and property.
“Egypt extends its sincere condolences to the UNIFIL envoy, the government and people of friendly Ireland, and the victim’s family,” the Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement.
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) extended on Wednesday the mandate of the U.N. peacekeeping mission in Lebanon for one year.
An Israeli gunboat violated the Lebanese waters off Ras Naqoura for a distance of 425 meters.
