Supreme Judicial Council
The Supreme Judicial Council on Thursday denied reports alleging that former public prosecutor and current President of the Cairo Court of Appeals Hamada El-Sawy, and his son, have resigned from the judiciary.
The meeting came within the framework of the Egyptian Judiciary Day marked in appreciation of the role made by the judicial authorities and bodies in entrenching and protecting constitutional principles and upholding the rule of law.
The council, which was set up in 2016 to serve as an independent judicial watchdog, refused the decision and said it would continue its duties. However, Tunisia police reportedly locked the council’s doors and stopped staff from entering.
The world is celebrating today, March 8th, the International Women’s Day. The president was keen to extend congratulations to the Egyptian women earlier this day.
The council members view the decision as non-disruptive to the openness of sessions, which are attended by attorneys, plaintiffs, and defendants.
