The Ministry of Local Development revealed in a statement Sunday that 7.2 million trees had been planted.
The Racosperma trees grow in the deserts of Halayeb, Shalateen and Marsa Alam, south of the Red Sea.
Tamawy said that an agreement has been reached with 40 farms to start the implementation of the initiative.
The funding will be secured by the private company while the supervision will be done by the Faculty of Agriculture as its students along with technicians will execute the plan.
