Activists denounced the move as “illegal,” accusing Israel of ramming one boat and using water cannons against others.
Residents were urged to evacuate the city immediately and head south via the coastal Rashid Road instead.
The United Nations’ commission of inquiry on the occupied Palestinian territories and Israel stated in its report that Israeli forces and authorities carried out four of the five acts defined under the Genocide Convention.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty emphasized Egypt’s refusal to accept any attempts to uproot Palestinians from their land, as he addressed the Maspero cultural salon in Cairo on Saturday.
“We have entered the second phase of Operation Gideon’s Chariots to fulfill the objectives of the war,” said Israeli army Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir on Wednesday.
While a UN-backed report has confirmed famine in Gaza City, the army stated on Friday that the “tactical pauses” announced last month to allow limited aid deliveries to specific areas across the Strip will no longer apply to the city.
Israel kills dozens of Palestinians every day in Gaza and is currently preparing to expand operations by conquering Gaza City, home to hundreds of thousands of people, and reoccupy the entire enclave.
Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul spoke via phone on Sunday. Abdelatty stressed the critical need for Israel to respond positively to the proposal, which has been accepted by Hamas.
More than 500,000 people are currently facing famine conditions, with the crisis expected to spread across other areas of the strip in the coming weeks.
As the humanitarian crisis deepens in Gaza, the health ministry in the enclave reported two more deaths due to widespread starvation and malnutrition, raising the total to 273, including 112 children.
The “tactical pause” will start on Sunday and last from 10 AM to 8 PM local time every day until further notice, the Israeli army noted in a statement on X.
