Enany
El-Enany took oath to assume his new post as Director-General of UNESCO as of November 15 for four-year term.
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said former Minister of Tourism Khaled El-Enany's Monday election as director-general of UNESCO has been added to the diplomatic and cultural record of Arab and African nations.
During its 222nd session, UNESCO’s Executive Board elected Enani as the new Director-General, selecting him over Congolese diplomat Firmin Edouard Matoko to succeed Audrey Azoulay, who has served two four-year terms since 2017.
The meeting took place during his visit to Paris, where he is leading Egypt’s delegation to the upcoming meetings of UNESCO’s Executive Council, scheduled for October 6, which will include the election of the organization’s next Director-General.
The meeting underscored the high priority assigned to this nomination by all national bodies, emphasizing that it represents an Egyptian-Arab-African candidacy.
