Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and US President Donald Trump will co-chair a global summit in Sharm El-Sheikh at noon on Monday aimed at ending the war in Gaza, the Egyptian Presidency announced.
The meeting follows “recent positive developments” in Sharm El-Sheikh, seen as a pivotal moment in the Gaza war, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement on Thursday.
US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff have joined the talks on Wednesday.
Macron is scheduled to arrive in Egypt on Sunday for a visit aimed at encouraging a ceasefire in Gaza and enhancing various aspects of Egypt-French relations.
Officials from Sudan told the AP they have declined US overtures regarding the matter, while representatives from Somalia and Somaliland stated they are unaware of any relevant contacts.
Hamas has confirmed its readiness to enter negotiations for the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza with the first phase of the agreement set to expire on Saturday.

The objective was to address the escalating tensions resulting from Israel's assassination policy and its potential to destabilize the region further, risking an unprecedented expansion of the conflict.
The foreign ministers of Egypt and Jordan have emphasized that Israel bears complete responsibility for the significant loss of life resulting from Israeli military operations in Gaza since October 7.
