Egypt, Qatar and the US have intensified their mediating efforts to communicate a recent 60-day ceasefire proposal to Israel and Hamas. However, the latest round of talks held in Doha was almost to collapse because of the dispute over maps presented by the Israeli occupation army about its troops’ withdrawal during the ceasefire period in Gaza.
Media reported that Cairo has been hosting extensive discussions on Friday and Saturday to prepare for a new round of indirect talks on Sunday to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and a prisoner swap deal after Doha negotiations failed last week.
Egypt’s security delegation has highlighted to all the participating parties the danger of escalating and failing to adhere to the negotiation path, an Egyptian high-level source said on Wednesday.
The source added that the Egyptian security delegation reached a consensus formula on many points of disagreement.
