CAIRO – 2 July 2017: Portugal beats Mexico 2-1 in the third place playoff match at the FIFA Confederation Cup this Sunday. Portugal secured the Bronze medal without their biggest star, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Both teams started the match attempting to score the first goal to secure the upper hand in the game. Video Assistant Referee gave Portugal the opportunity to score the first goal through a penalty, but Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa saved Andre Silva’s shot to keep the score 0-0.

In the second half, bypassing Portugal defender Nelson Semedo, Mexico scored their only goal. Portugal tried to equalize the score, but failed to do so during the rest of the game. Kepler Pepe scored a late goal for Portugal to take the match into overtime.

Portugal got another penalty, but Adrien Silva succeeded in beating Ochoa; scoring the winning goal for Portugal.

Cristiano Ronaldo decided to leave the Portugal camp after losing in the semifinal to be with his new born twins.
