CAIRO – 2 July 2017: The International Basketball Association (FIBA) hosted the opening ceremony of the U19 World Cup on Saturday evening at the Cairo International indoor Stadium.

The opening ceremony was attended by 12 thousand fans with President Abdul Fatah al-Sisi in attendance, Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, the minister of youth sports and several other ministers and officials of the International Federation of Basketball, according to Super Kora.

The tournament began on July 1 and continues through July 9 for the first time in the history of the continent. This is championship number 13 and includes 16 teams from all over the world. Egypt is in the second group with Germany, Lithuania and Puerto Rico.

Egypt won 67-65 in Saturday’s game against Puerto Rico.
