CAIRO-29 January 2021: Egypt handball national team winger Yehia El Deraa said that Egypt’s performance in the 2021 World Cup is just the beginning of something big for the current generation.

"We believe this tournament is the beginning of something big for the current generation, we have several championships coming up. We want to do something big.” El Deraa said.

Egypt were knocked out by title holders, Denmark, in the quarter-finals on penalties.

El Deraa added “I can't say we lacked experience, but I don't think we were lucky. It was a penalty throw out that they managed to win.”

The Egyptian team fought during the game to secure a semi-final spot but some silly mistakes cost us the victory.

The Egyptian winger added “We start dreaming again, we are proud of ourselves and Egyptians should be too. We fought till the end to reach the semis, and now we have to start thinking of the Olympics in Tokyo."

The Egyptians are placing much hope on the handball national team to secure a medal in the Olympics for the first time in the history of all sports teams in Egypt.
