Pereira praised Portugal performance despite losing to France in Egypt 2021

CAIRO, 25 January 2021 Handball World Cup official website: Portugal coach Paulo Pereira praised the performance of his team’s players despite losing to France in their final game at the World Championship and quitting the tournament from the main round.

Portugal lost to France 32:23 in their final game of main round of Egypt 2021, Group III at Dr Hassan Moustafa Indoor Sports Complex, 6th of October on Sunday.

“The most experienced team succeeded in snatching the victory as we defended well in the first period but in the second period, we did more mistakes,” Pereira told the post game’s press conference.

“We failed to make use our chances while France managed to achieve their target,”

“We started the tournament in a superb way, but the Draw suspended our effort as we have been paired with France and Norway,” the Portuguese tactician added.

Meanwhile, Portugal’s captain Fábio Magalhães revealed his depression after losing to France and quitting the World Championship from the main round.

The 32-year-old, left back also congratulated France for reaching the World Championship quarterfinals, confirming his teammates put on a superb show against one of the big teams in the world.

On the other side, France coach Guillaume Gille confirmed his team played a brilliant game against Portugal as well as finishing the game with the victory over a big team.

“We prepare for each game separately that helped us to be the only team in the World Championship claim the full mark by achieve the victory in all the games we played in,” Gille said.

France captain Ludovic Fabregas agreed with his team’s coach as he confirmed they played against a tough opponent who did their best to achieve victory, but the French experience suspended their efforts.
