CAIRO – 2 July 2017: Lyon reached an agreement to sign the young striker Mariano Diaz from Real Madrid. This transfer opens the way for Alexander Lacazette, Lyon’s striker, to leave the club.

Mariano, a Dominican player, signed a five year contract with an eight million dollar transfer fee.

Mariano, 23, joined the French club after he failed to earn a starting position with Real Madrid who had a great attacking line in Karim Benzema, Alvaro Morata and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“I am very happy to be here at the OL, I knew the team before coming, it is one of the best in the country and even in Europe.“ Mariano said in a press conference.

Jean Michel Aulas, Lyon owner, said “this is an important moment for the club. A number of priorities had been set and Mariano was one. It is an exceptional operation.“

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, is happy with the transfer because it will make signing his target, Alexander Lacazette, easier.
