CAIRO-13 December 2020: Real Madrid defeated city rivals Atletico Madrid 2-0 on Saturday night at Alfredo di Stefano stadium in the Spanish League.

Alfredo di Stefano stadium, Real Madrid’s venue, hosted the derby for the first time, becoming the 13th stadium to host the Madrid Derby.

The home team opened the score by Casemiro’s header after 15 minutes while Dani Carvajal’s screamer in the second half doubled the score for the hosts.

Real Madrid put an end to their rivals’ unbeaten start in the league and closed the gap with them to three points.

Atletico Madrid have a chance to extend their lead as they still have a game in hand.

“They played much better than us, they were more intense and we were not ourselves in the first half. We took a step forward in the second half and had a great chance to score but football is all about the little details.” The visitors’ captain, Koke, said after the match.

The victory in the derby completed Real Madrid’s perfect week as they defeated Germany’s Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-0 on Friday to book a place in the UEFA Champions League round of 16.
