CAIRO-13 November 2020: Egypt U-23 national team started the U-23 friendly tournament with a goalless draw against South Korea.

"It was a good game against a strong team. They are the champions of Asia and they are known for their physical strength and speed." The team head coach Shawki Gharib said after the match.

The Olympic team is preparing for the Olympic Games in Tokyo in the next summer.

Egypt qualified for the Olympics after clinching the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations title at home in November 2019.

Gharib added "We want to give the chance to our players to show their abilities, especially the players who were called up for the first time."

The tournament also includes Brazil, who will face South Korea on Saturday before meeting the hosts on Tuesday in the closing match of the tournament.

The Olympic Games in Tokyo will see the 12th appearance for the Egyptian football at the competition and the Pharaohs aim to secure a medal at the competition for the first time in the history.
