CAIRO – 28 June 2017: Brazilian Midfielder and Champions League winner with Manchester United, Anderson Luis de Abreu Oliveira spoke about the story behind his penalty kick in the Champions League 2008 final against Chelsea.

Talking to Radio General on June 26, Anderson had an anecdote regarding his penalty kick in the Champions League final.

according to Goal, Anderson said, “I was sitting on the bench, Giggs looked and said: "Get Anderson to take one". I said "Oh my". I took the ball; it was the longest walk of my life.”

“I came with the ball, and there is no way I would not be shaking. I was already shaking. I was terrified," Goal reported.

Anderson continued describing his encounter with Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech, “I went to the ball, I got the ball, I looked at that goalkeeper, who is a giant. Cech opened his arms… I'll kick it hard, close my eyes and pray for the ball to go in,” Goal quoted Anderson saying.

“Then I took three, four steps, I closed my eyes and the ball passed just by his hand,” he added.

Anderson’s penalty kick helped Manchester United win the 2008 Champions League against Chelsea. During his time at the club, the Brazilian managed to win four Premier League titles along with a FIFA Club World Cup and two League Cups.
